The self-guided guide to Cozumel's best beach clubs, snorkeling, and local spots, without the cruise-excursion markup.
Cozumel is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean, which means pier-side excursion booths are counting on you not having a plan. Book at the pier and you'll pay a premium for a crowded tour timed around everyone else's ship, not yours.
The Smarty Ports Cozumel guide is built the other way around: a self-guided plan timed to your ship's actual arrival and all-aboard time, with the transportation options, terminal-specific logistics, and honest time budgets that make an independent port day work. For current, specific excursion and beach club picks, the guide links you straight to the vetted recommendations on smartyports.com.
A quick, honest rundown you can use right now, no purchase required. The full guide goes much deeper on every one of these.
Three direct-dock piers, no tendering: Puerta Maya and the International Pier sit together about 3 miles south of downtown San Miguel, and Punta Langosta is right in the middle of downtown.
Only Punta Langosta puts you within walking distance of the plaza, shops, and restaurants. From Puerta Maya or the International Pier, downtown is a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride, not a walk, though Puerta Maya has its own shops and beach area right at the pier.
Cruise lines usually list all-aboard 60 to 90 minutes before departure. Build in at least 45 to 60 minutes of slack beyond your last planned stop, more on days when multiple ships are in port and taxi lines back up at the pier.
If that's your pier, the downtown plaza, shops, and a few beach clubs are a short walk away. Not an option from Puerta Maya or the International Pier.
Fixed rates are posted at every pier exit. Confirm the price out loud before you get in, and confirm it's per group, not per person.
The cheapest way to cover distance on the island, if you don't mind waiting for a seat to open up.
Takes a license, a deposit, and some planning, but it's the most flexible option and can be the cheapest per person for a group.
